Organising committee chairman Chua Chee Seong said the event was held to foster relationship and unity among the multi-racial community.
He said SGM had been actively promoting cultural, peace and educational activities for the betterment of the society.
He added that SGM participated in several activities including national day celebrations, peace forums and blood donation campaigns.
He said SGM received the National Arts Award in 2004 for its vision and efforts to develop the arts and culture in the country.
“SGM believes arts and culture can help bridge the gaps between different ethnic groups, foster harmonious relationships among the people and promote world peace,” added Chua.
Chua said the event was organised in conjunction with the Merdeka Month celebration and he added that it took about five months for the organising committee to plan the event.
Several events were lined up that evening including war drum performances, choir, cultural show, modern dances and gymnastics shows.
The gathering ended when the crowd joined VIPs on stage to sing Jalur Gemilang song and wave the national flags.
